HANOI–BA BE–PAC NGOI /PAC NGOI–BA BE–CAO BANG  /CAO BANG–BAN GIOC WATERFALLS–CAO BANG /CAO BANG–MEO VAC /MEO VAC - DONG VAN /DONG VAN–PHO BANG–HA GIANG /HA GIANG – HANOI 

D1 HANOI–BA BE–PAC NGOI  (D)
Early departure and drive to Ba Be Lake (having a water area of around 500ha, spreading over 8km, considered as the biggest natural water lake in Vietnam), via Thai Nguyen and tea plantations. On the way, stop to visit the Vietnamese Ethnic Museum, one of the largest museums dedicated to the ethnic cultures of Vietnam. 
Arrive in Ba Be in the afternoon. 
Later, cruise upstream on the lake and the Nang River to reach the Dau Dang waterfall. Then, settle at the home-stay in the village of Pac Ngoi.
Overnight at home-stay.
Note: Traditional houses in Pac Ngoi are made of wood and offer a basic level of accommodation. 
D2 PAC NGOI–BA BE–CAO BANG  (B/L)
After breakfast, drive through the well-preserved Ba Be national park (established in 1992 as Vietnam’s 8th national park. The scenery here is breathtaking, with towering Limestone Mountains peaking at 1554m, plunging valleys, dense evergreen forests, waterfalls, caves and, of course, the lakes. Visit a Tay village.
Then continue the journey to Cao Bang. 
On the way, stop in ethnic villages and at one of the local markets (depending on which day of the week). Arrive in the afternoon and check-in at the hotel. 
 
Overnight in Cao Bang. 
D3 CAO BANG–BAN GIOC WATERFALLS–CAO BANG  (B/L)
After breakfast, stroll through one of the local minority markets (normally on weekends or every 5-10-20th day of the lunar calendar).
Then, visit the beautiful 800-meter long Nguom Ngao cave (an astonishing cave with stalactites of various shapes) before arriving at Ban Gioc Waterfalls. The site marks the border between Vietnam and China and the multiple-level waterfall is set in a lush landscape (the water level varies between seasons). 
Return back to Cao Bang in the afternoon stopping, along the way, to visit the hundred-year old blacksmith village of Phuc Sen. 
Overnight in Cao Bang.
D4 CAO BANG–MEO VAC  (B/L)
After breakfast, drive to Meo Vac (220km) and enjoy the majestic sceneries and stunning views over the valleys, mountains and bamboo forests. 
On the way, stop at a local market (only possible on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 15th days of the lunar calendar) and visite some minority village as the Black Lolo tribe.
Lunch at local restaurant in Bao Lac Then continuation to Meo Vac.
Overnight in Meo Vac. 
D5 MEO VAC - DONG VAN  (B/L)
After breakfast, depart to Dong Van by the mountainous roads, numerous valleys and through steep mountain routes, including the famous Happiness Road and the impressive Ma Pi Leng Pass. This stretch of road offers a breathtaking view of the valleys below. 
Upon arrival, check-in at hotel in Dong Van before walking through the old streets with houses over 100 years old. 
Overnight in Dong Van.
D6 DONG VAN–PHO BANG–HA GIANG  (B/L/D) 
After breakfast, stroll through Dong Van (only on Sundays) and Sa Phin’s market and visit the former Royal Palace of the H’Mong (Vua Meo).
Continue by road to Pho Bang Village featuring ancient multi-level houses made of clay bricks with tiled roofs. Depending on the day, there is an opportunity to visit an authentic mountain market where all kinds of products, including colorful traditional clothing are sold. 
In the afternoon, drive to Ha Giang. On the way, stop at the Bo Y Village and the fascinating karst formation of Binh Yen before arriving at Quan Ba. Enjoy the visit of Lung Tam H’mong village where people still practise a traditional technique of weaving and embroidery.
Dinner and overnight in a stilt house of Tien Thang village. 
 
Note: Traditional houses are made of wood and offer a basic level of accommodation. This type of housing is an important part of the traveling experience to these remote areas of Vietnam and offer excellent opportunities to share the way of life of the local people.
D7 HA GIANG – HANOI  (B/L)
After breakfast, visit the beautiful Tay Village of Phuong Do and its lovely stilt houses, fish ponds and rice fields, before driving back to Hanoi. 
Arrive in Hanoi late in the afternoon.
